Supporting social pedagogy across the UK
Over the last few years, ThemPra has helped pioneer social pedagogy in different parts of the UK and is actively involved in setting up the Social Pedagogy Professional Association, together with the Centre for Understanding Social Pedagogy at UCL Institute of Education and Jacaranda Development. We have attracted EU funding for our Leonardo Mobility and Erasmus+ projects. In England, we’ve developed and delivered a short course for the social pedagogy pilot managed by the National Centre for Excellence in Residential Child Care (NCERCC) in 2007, have been working with The Fostering Network on Head, Heart, Hands, an exciting demonstration programme introducing social pedagogy to foster care, and have been highly involved in innovative, systemic strategies to implement social pedagogy in residential services in Essex, Staffordshire, Walsall, St Christopher’s Fellowship and in Sefton’s community adolescent service. We have pioneered social pedagogy in Scotland through courses with the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland (CELCIS), Aberlour Sycamore Services and Aberlour Foster Care, Kibble, Orkney, the City of Edinburgh Council, East Ayrshire, West Lothian, Renfrewshire and Camphill Scotland. In Northern Ireland we’ve trained professionals at Belfast’s Health & Social Care Trust and at Camphill Glencraig, and we’re supporting the Care Council for Wales in developing social pedagogy within Wales. We are also working on the Isle of Man, developing social pedagogy with The Children’s Centre and St Christopher’s Fellowship. The below map shows all the organisations we’ve been involved with over the years.
